United Arab Emirates 2013 Fazza Championship - Free Diving

This stamp showing a free diver from the water surface is part of a 2-stamp issue released on 28 July 2013 to mark the 11th edition of the Fazza Championship. Launched in 2002 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, the Fazza Championship is an annual affair as a way to display the cultural history of the Emirates, with various events held at various locations across Dubai. This year the championship features six events including hunting falconry, falcon racing, al yullah (rifle acrobatics), shooting, hunting dog racing and free diving. The other stamp features al yullah.

New Caledonia 2013 Reopening of the Maritime Museum

A single stamp was released on 28 June 2013 to mark the reopening of the New Caledonian Maritime Museum after 3 long years of renovation work. The selvage of the full sheet of 10 stamps contains very interesting illustrations that probably refer to the subjects on display in the museum; the illustration that is most interesting here is at the bottom left corner of the sheet, showing a scuba diver recovering/studying a sunken artifact.

Liberia 2013 International Horticultural Expo 2014 in Qingdao

This commercial issue from Liberia announces the 2014 International Horticultural Exposition to be held in Qingdao, China.The 6 stamps in the souvenir sheet features the expo mascot named “Qingqing” in various poses; the mascot design is a combination of natural landscape and ideals, inspired by such images as rolling waves, drifting clouds, lofty peaks and wavering tree crowns. One of the stamp features Qingqing snorkeling alongside a fish. The top left sheet corner features the Theme Pavilion, one of the landmark buildings of the expo, it takes on the appearance of a Chinese rose, the city flower of Qingdao; this will be the venue for showcasing the theme of “From the Earth, For the Earth” and other major events like the floriculture contests.

The central label in the sheet shows an artistic rendition of one of the several major expo structures: The Botanical Pavilion, that looks like a glasshouse with a leaf design; the pavilion is divided into the Marine Plants Section, the Bamboo and Rattan Section, and the Temperate Plants Section.

Guyana 2012 World Environment Day

For the 2012 World Environment Day, Guyana released a set of 2 souvenir sheets. The first one, shown here has 3 fan-shaped stamps arranged around a circular vignette, and together they form a blue sphere, perhaps to represent our blue planet. The outer ring of the blue sphere, formed by the 3 stamps, is populated with all sorts of marine creature, while the surface of the sphere is festooned with land creatures, together with creatures in flight flitting around the blue sphere. And on the lower left quadrant of the souvenir sheet one can find the yellow silhouette of a scuba diver placed across 2 regions, lying both inside and outside the blue sphere - a very interesting concept!

Israel 2012 ATM Label - Coral Conservation

A new set of ATM stamps on the theme of marine conservation were released 17 April 2012. The set is available in 5 designs featuring various aspect of marine conservation including a few focusing on individual endangered marine creature, the design for coral conservation shows a scuba diver replanting coral with an underwater observatory in the background.

Albania 2012 Underwater fauna and flora

The Albanian Post released on 14 December 2012 a set of 2 se-tenant stamps on the theme of underwater flora and fauna. The first stamps valued at 10 leks features a scuba diver. The same 2 stamps appear in a miniature sheet.

50 Years of Cocos (Keeling) Islands Stamps - Scuba Dive with Turtle

Cocos (Keeling) Islands are celebrating 50 years of stamp use on 4 June 2013 with a set of 5 stamps. The 5-cent stamp, the lowest denomination, shows a scuba diver with a camera following a turtle.

Scuba Cachet for Xmas Island Fish Issue in May 2013

The FDC cachet of the Christmas Island Fishes issue, released on 21 May 2013 has a scuba diver as its central feature. Unfortunately, the scuba diver in the design does not seem to be wearing any buoyancy control device (BCD), which is important for safety as well as buoyancy control.
The fish featured in the stamps are the Cocos Angelfish, the Ladder Wrasse, the Redtooth Triggerfish, and the Red-striped Pigfish.

Vanuatu Post issued on 5 December 2012 a set of of 4 stamps entitled Greetings From Vanuatu featuring what tourists can expect from the island. The second stamp denominated at 100 vatu features a snorkeler admiring corals under water.

Solomon Islands released 15 March 2013 a set of souvenir sheets featuring indigenous corals, in the second souvenir sheet with a single $24-stamp, silhouettes of at least 3 divers are featured in mid-water of a beautiful coral reef.

Malaysia 2013 Snorkelling among turtles on SetemKu stamp

Malaysia Pos released on 18 January the last of a series of 5 SetemKu, that can be translated literally as MyStamp, sheets with the theme based on a pair of home-produced animated characters, Upin & Ipin. The picture on the image label of one of the stamp-label pair in the SetemKu sheet features a snorkeller swimming underwater among turtles.

Cayman Islands released a new set of definitive stamps with marine life theme on 9 October 2012. The $2 stamp features a scuba diver hovering above a giant barrel sponge.

Aruba 2012 Wrecks


Aruba issued a set of 10 stamps with the theme of underwater exploration on 15 November 2012, in a se-tenant block of 2 x 5 stamps. Five of the stamps feature marine fauna: orange cup coral, elkhorn coral, a stingray, a queen angelfish and a green turtle; the other five feature underwater wrecks: a Convair 400, the SS Antilla - a German freighter scuttled by its captain  to avoid confiscation when Germany attacked the Netherlands in May 1940, the Jane Sea - a 76-m cement carrier sunk in 1988, the Star Gerren - a 67-m tanker sunk in 2000, and the Kappel - a 51-foot steel boat sunk in 2009 and strategically located on the sandy sea floor next to the Mangel Halto reef at a shallow depth of about 16 metres for easy access by scuba divers. The stamp featuring the Kappel wreck include a scuba diver in its design.
